Yeah, yeah, I hear you, we have a democratic republic not a democracy, but frankly we have both. Our political governance is based on a democratic republic. But our society focuses on democracy for all its citizens. At least it used to. Seems like we are going more toward a ChristoFascist autocracy each year and we don’t seem to recognize the danger inherent in this shift of our society and our government.
We still have options but if we don’t take the initiative and stand up for our system of governance, we will likely soon find ourselves being ruled by a new Republican version of 1930’s Germany and our minority populations, including racial, ideological and faith based subjected to the same discrimination and incarceration as the Jews, Romany, and others who were not of a make up as determined appropriate by the ChristoFascist dictator and the ruling junta minions.
Think I’m kidding? Perhaps simply deluded? Oh how I wish! But this old man has been closely observing our political incursions from the right wing on a regular basis for a couple of decades now. I have watched the Republican Party devolve from a reasonably moderate group of people who wanted the best cooperative solutions for our country and our people, to the current state of being a racist, authoritarian, fascist oriented organization whose sole ideology is focused on the accumulation of power and nothing else.
There has been no legislative program from the Republican Party to benefit the citizens of this country, UNLESS they happen to be white, wealthy and powerfully supportive. Simply look at the legislation that has been put forth in our Congressional houses in the past several years. Now look at the generating, supporting, and vote to pass organization. Other than tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy, what legislation has the Republican Party passed? No, not the tax break of 2017, that was simply another give away to the rich and powerful and to the corporate executives who actually own the Republicans.
Now there are some who would say I am being far to harsh in my condemnation of the Republicans and their MAGA minions. To this I reply, I am harsh, I don’t suffer fools gladly and those who would do harm to my country and my fellow citizens. I am not a media type poster, I am simply an old American veteran and worker who has been on all sides of the society we have had in previous years in our nation. I write this blog for my own pleasures, not for a group of subscribers or anywhere near that state. IF someone should stumble across my posts, happens to actually read them, I of course welcome their comments or opinions. I write what I believe to be truth, this is based on research, reading all manner of news sources, and considering those essays or papers of people I have found to be of great respect, integrity in their writing, and who have gained a level of prominence in the world of humanity for their dedication to fact and truth across the board.
We have become a permanent campaign country over the past years and it would seem that our political class will continue to have election campaigns continuously year in and year out all the while soliciting and accruing millions of dollars from the public and more insidiously from the large wealthy donors and corporations lobby groups. At this point, we have just finished a set of primary elections and in November will have another election for offices less than the Presidential. This of course will be then followed by the Presidential and Congressional election cycle for 2024 and once done, the entire cycle will begin once more. All the while, the general public becomes more exhausted from constant campaigns, on television, on social media, and of course through email lists established by unscrupulous means and sold/resold to various organizations, mainly political but also by con artists and identity thieves.
It would be so very nice if we could transition to an election system like in Great Britain or Europe where campaigns are restricted to a few weeks or months prior to the actual election. Also in many of those areas, elections are public funded, no corporate, wealthy, or even everyday citizen contributions. So therefore, undue influence of the rich, powerful or corporate can’t be involved. We at one time had a restriction on electoral contributions and corporations were not allowed to provide campaign funding at all. Then the “Supreme Court” decided that corporations were citizens with the same rights, SERIOUSLY??? So Amazon, GM, Exxon, et al have the same rights that I as a voting, taxpaying human citizen does? Bull shit! In the first place, very little tax revenue comes from corporations or the uber wealthy. Sure I hear all the crap propaganda about how the rich pay the most in taxes, but I still call bullshit on that. Show me the tax returns of Musk, Bezos, Gates, Zuckerberg, Trump, etc. All wealthy and tax avoiding men and women. Consider the heirs of the Walton empire, how much of a percentage in taxable wealth do you actually believe is paid into our national treasury? ZILCH, Bupkes, absolutely minimal dollars if any at all, comes from these super wealthy people and the corporations? Hell, Exxon, Shell and the rest of the oil and gas criminals reap tax grants and rebates by the billions each year. And they still screw the public at the gas pump by screwing with the prices.
So spare me the validity of that idiotic Supreme Court decision, the corporate world does not and damn sure should never have the same rights monetarily and electorally as John Q Public in our political system. Frankly, corporations should never be considered as viable participants in the electoral process in this country. They spend millions in paying for lobbying firms and bribe our elected officials sufficiently in their offices, so they should be happy with that level of graft and corruption and stay the hell out of our electoral system.
